Lynn Police asking for public’s help after 2 people randomly attacked

LYNN, Mass. — Lynn Police are looking for witnesses after two people were brutally attacked last week, with one victim now fighting for his life in the hospital.

Police are calling both attacks random. A witness called police following the first attack, and police made an arrest. Police have since said they believe that suspect may also be responsible for the second attack.

The first attack occurred on Wednesday around 5:30 p.m., when a 29-year-old woman walking in the area of Market Square in Lynn was attacked from behind and struck, possibly with a bat. The woman is expected to survive from her injuries.

Then, minutes later around the corner, police say a 32-year-old man was attacked from behind the same exact way, on Western Avenue. He was hit over the head, possibly also with a bat. The victim was left unconscious, and is now in critical condition, police said.

Bryan Esteban said his younger brother is one of the victims.

“They saw someone hit him and run away,” said Bryan Esteban.

His brother, 32-year-old Celso Esteban, just became a father last week.

He was getting ready to introduce his baby boy, and celebrate his nephew’s first birthday at his brother’s house and never made it there.

The victim was walking to store to buy some items for a birthday party. His brother went looking for him, and found him bleeding on the ground. A witness flagged him down.

“When I found someone is on the ground. I stopped, I went to see. It was my brother,” said Bryan Esteban.

Police are asking the public for help in finding any witnesses who saw what happened.

“We did have one male that stopped, and talked to a family member on scene, and passed some information onto him. However, that witness was gone prior to our arrival. We are looking for that witness, or anyone to come forward,” said Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec.

The brother describes the witness’s car as possibly a gray Honda civic.

“They just try to save his life, so now we don’t know the future for him,” said Bryan Esteban.

He shared their back story with us, where the family immigrated here from Guatemala years ago for a better life where they are working as landscapers.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lynn Police.

The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help the family and the newborn get through this difficult time.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
