BOSTON — A small space in the South End transformed into Santa’s workshop in the North Pole this weekend!

The second annual Toy Shop hosted by Boston Community Pediatrics welcomed hundreds of families Friday and Saturday.

BCP is the first nonprofit pediatric private practice in Massachusetts. It serves 1,200 patients from mostly low-income, minority homes.

The event gave parents the chance to pick out new toys to put under the Christmas tree for their children.

Fresh food, personal hygiene products, gift cards and more were also handed out.

More than 100 volunteers helped make the event possible.

“We know that the holidays can be really hard for people, and we’re just trying to make it a little bit brighter,” said BCP Founder Robyn Riseberg. “We know inflation is high, we know things are tough right now. People are having a tough time paying their heating bills and we don’t want them to think, ‘should I pay my heating bill and not buy my child a Christmas present?”

Riseberg said 300 families stopped by the Toy Shop over the two-day event.

“It helps because sometimes we are short with things,” said Jazline Diaz, of Haverhill. “One gift extra for each, it helps, even sometimes food nowadays is a struggle, so a little bit more food does help us as a family.”
