FALMOUTH, Mass. — An investigation is underway after a man was killed in a house fire on Cape Cod early Friday morning, authorities said.
Crews responding to a report of a fire at a home on Red Brook Road in Falmouth around 6:30 a.m. were greeted by heavy flames and smoke, Falmouth Fire Chief Jeffrey Lewis, Falmouth Police Chief Jeffrey Lourie, State Fire Marshal Jon Davine, and Cape & Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois said in a joint statement.
Officials say firefighters removed a man in his 70s from the blaze. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His name hasn’t been made public.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of his death.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, but the home has been deemed a total loss.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
