Injuries reported after North Attleboro police cruiser struck along highway

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. — Massachusetts State Police are investigating after a North Attleboro police cruiser was involved in a crash along I-95 South. It happened while crews were doing roadwork south of Exit 5 in Attleboro just before 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

State Police said the officer was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries while the driver of the other car involved was sent to Rhode Island Hospital with a lower-body injury.

Boston 25 News crews at the scene saw a red sedan with heavy front-end damage and the SUV cruiser in the woods. Both vehicles were towed away.

This comes after a similar crash in Weston on Wednesday.

A state trooper was seriously hurt after a tractor-trailer slammed into his parked cruiser. Police said the driver of the tractor trailer fell asleep at the wheel, causing him to veer into the breakdown lane.

That driver is facing several charges including negligent operation, failure to move over and a marked lanes violation. The 33-year-old state trooper involved in that crash was released from the hospital and is on injured leave.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
