Highly endangered right whale mother and calf spotted nursing in Cape Cod Bay

New video from New England researchers captured a magical moment.

The calf is the mother’s 10th documented calf. One of her other calves was recently spotted in poor condition off the coast of North Carolina and has not been seen since January.

“Every single female North Atlantic right whale and calf are vital to the species’ recovery. These critically-endangered whales are dying faster than they can reproduce, largely due to entanglements in fishing gear and collisions with boats and ships,” says the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

There are less than 350 North Atlantic right whales left in the world, according to the Woods
