Ex-South Shore real estate broker expected to plead guilty in $11M embezzlement case

A former South Shore real estate broker is expected to plead guilty to embezzlement charges on Wednesday, according to court filings.

Prosecutors are asking a judge to sentence Stephen Webster, 63, to five to seven years in prison, while his attorneys are seeking a one‑year jail sentence, The Patriot Ledger reported.

Webster was the owner of Success Real Estate, which operated offices in Marshfield and Braintree.

Prosecutors say Webster diverted more than $11 million in client escrow funds into business and personal accounts.

Authorities allege the money was used to pay off debts and loans and to fund an extravagant lifestyle that included a high-rent Florida property, expensive cars, jet skis, boats, vacations, and trips to Boston and Florida casinos.

Success Real Estate closed its Marshfield and Braintree locations in December 2024.

In addition to the criminal case, several former real estate agents are suing Webster, claiming they were never paid commissions they were owed.

Webster is scheduled to appear in court as the case moves toward resolution.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
