Embattled Dorchester-based dentist facing new additional charges

Unlicensed dentist based in Dorchester stole over $200k from Medicaid, defrauded patients

BOSTON — The manager of a Boston-based dental practice is facing additional charges related to the unauthorized insurance of prescriptions and unauthorized use of a patient’s credit card.

Fritz Gabriel, 69, the owner of Forest Hills Dental on Dorchester Avenue in Dorchester, has been indicted on charges of unlawful use of a registration number and one count of fraudulent use of a credit card, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office announced Monday.

According to the AG’s office, Gabriel falsely representing himself as a licensed dentist, issued prescriptions, including ones for controlled substances such as Percocet and Hydrocodone, using the registration number and credentials of a dentist without that dentist’s knowledge or authorization. Additonally, the AG alleges that Gabriel futilized a patient’s credit card to make more than $6,000 in unauthorized purchases, including $5,000 in charges for Forest Hills after helping the patient open the credit card.

Gabriel was indicted in May 2024 on criminal charges for allegedly defrauding both their patients and the state’s healthcare system for hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Gabriel and Forest Hills billed MassHealth for services — including extractions, root canals, and fillings — that were never provided to customers. Dental examinations of the MassHealth members at the Dorchester business allegedly helped authorities uncover the deceit.

In total, officials say Gabriel, who was not a licensed dentist, fraudulently obtained $245,000 from MassHealth.

Gabriel was arranged in court on Monday.
