Driver dead, 2 others hospitalized after serious single-vehicle crash in Sumner Tunnel

BOSTON — An investigating is underway following a single-vehicle crash that happened early Sunday morning in Boston’s Sumner Tunnel.

The Massachusetts State Police told Boston 25 News troopers were alerted to the accident at approximately 3:20 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered that the crash happened on the ramp from the Sumner Tunnel to Storrow Drive.

At the scene, troopers found three people inside the vehicle. Authorities confirmed the driver, a 24-year-old Northampton man, died at the scene and that an 18-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were sent to Mass General Hospital with serious injuries.

The ramp where the accident happened was closed but has since reopened. The crash remains under investigation by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police, with assistance from the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
