Driver charged with OUI after crashing into ambulance in Salem

SALEM, Mass. — Wednesday morning Salem police officers responded to a reported crash on Jefferson Avenue before 11 a.m. where they found a car with front-end damage and an ambulance with damage to its side.

According to the driver of the ambulance and two additional witnesses, the Cadillac crossed the center line and the left front of the Cadillac struck the ambulance on the driver’s side.

The driver of Cadillac, Philip Viola, 54 was arrested after an investigation. Viola is charged with Operating Under the Influence of drugs 2nd offense, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Marked lanes violation.

There are no reports of any injuries related to the incident.
