Dangerous stunt: Video shows group of kids riding bicycles through traffic in busy Boston tunnel

BOSTON — A group of kids on bicycles were spotted pulling dangerous stunts as they dodged rush-hour traffic during a recent joyride through a busy Boston tunnel.

New surveillance video shared by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation showed five bicyclists pedaling down the on-ramp from McGrath Highway into the tunnel to Interstate 93 South around 5 p.m. Friday.

“I’ve seen groups of kids doing this on streets around here as well… I think they’re getting more ambitious and trying different things but it’s not gonna end well,” said bicyclist Reinhold Grellmann.

Once in the tunnel, the bicyclists could be seen popping wheelies as they rode alongside vehicles that were attempting to take the exit that carries traffic toward Logan Airport.

The video shows the bicyclists ultimately leaving the tunnel as drivers attempt to maneuver around them. No one was injured.

“The only saving grace is they’re in a group.. if it was a single person there’s no chance,” said Grellmann.

Signs have been posted at entrances to all major tunnels reminding bicyclists and people walking that they’re prohibited from entering.

Massachusetts State Police said no one reported this group of young bicyclists but if they are caught they could face fines.
