BOSTON — The countdown to the reopening of Boston’s Sumner Tunnel is on.
The tunnel is scheduled to reopen later this week, on Friday, Sept. 1, MassDOT said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“#MassDOT crews continue to finalize work and clean and prepare the tunnel for travel,” the post said on Sunday. “Weekend Sumner Tunnel work will resume in the fall.”
The 88-year-old tunnel, situated between East Boston and the North End, has been completely closed since July 5 for repair work.
