Cape Cod bridges expected to be backed up Easter weekend

PLYMOUTH, Mass. — The Easter holiday weekend is expected to cause big back ups near the Cape Cod bridges.

Area restaurants are preparing for a busy holiday weekend. Madison Whittles with Tulu Hospitality says they are expecting high turn out at their three Plymouth restaurants, Tavern on the Wharf, Proof 22 and Plymouth Public House. “Easter reservations just in general have been absolutely crazy. We actually stop taking reservations last week,” said Whittles. “We are going to have our bunny here 10am to 3pm to take pictures with the kids.”

The traditional traffic we usually see in the summer on the Cape Cod bridges is going to be a factor over Easter weekend with the ongoing construction. “I’m getting here now so, yeah, it’s going to be bad,” said a driver who got an early start. “I just think they could have planned it better.” MassDOT announced both bridges would be going down to one lane last month and warned people they would need extra time.

Janet Lewandowski works at the gas station at the foot of the bridge and hears the complaints non-stop. “It’s like what can I do for you? We can offer you come coffee, get gas but that’s the best you can do,” said Lewandowski.

So if your Easter plans take you in this direction – budget extra time.  “I know everyone’s pain when it comes to the traffic so getting everyone down here it’s a nice middle ground between Boston and the Cape,” said Whittles.

People are also worried with the nicer weather in the forecast that the traffic is only going to get worse on the bridges.
