The NHL season has just started and this year the league is allowing teams to put advertiser’s patches on their jerseys. The Bruins’ patch features a company you may not have heard of, but they’re based right in Boston.
“We love the Bruins and what they do,” said Rapid7 CEO Corey Thomas. “We love the grit, we love the tenacity.”
Rapid7 CEO Corey Thomas explains why his cybersecurity company was the perfect fit.
The Bruins pick the partner that cares about creating a safe technology future for all of us in society,” said Thomas.
Thomas is a Harvard graduate and became the CEO of Rapid7 in 2008. Just as the company rapidly grew, so did its mission of keeping up with technology.
“Technology can do great good in society, but if we don’t manage that technology well, then we also open up lots of avenues of not just attack, but things that actually can take advantage of some of the most vulnerable members of society,” said Thomas.
Rapid7 is a global company with about 2,600 employees, but its headquarters is right here in Boston, right next to the TD Garden. Thomas says the location is key.
“One of the tensions that we actively try to manage is how do we actually be a global, successful business, which requires, you know, very high standards, lots of execution, but also is anchored in communities and make a difference in communities around the world,” said Thomas.
In a world that can seem so divided, Thomas says sports always seem to bond
“It’s the one thing that regardless of your political affiliation, you can come together and you can actually cheer, root, and hate the other team,” said Thomas. And we need that in society.”
But whether it’s going to the game, or playing a sport, Thomas says athletics are getting expensive. He wants to make sure sports like hockey stay equitable and inclusive.
“For me, another passion is accessibility,” said Thomas. “My son has mild cerebral palsy, but he’s super competitive and likes to participate in sports. If you go to a Bruins game, he is one of the biggest screaming fans there. And so that aspect of sort of like hockey for everyone and hockey for all was also important to me.”
The ‘Hockey is for Everyone’ campaign is helping the Bruins and Thomas team up together to make it a safe and positive environment for all because it’s no secret hockey fans are passionate. And it’s Thomas’s passion to build his company’s footprint in the community
“It’s sometimes nice to actually see, you know, something that you’re actually giving your life to reflected in these sort of like arenas,” said Thomas. “I just think that that’s a great win-win.”
