SUNRISE, FLORIDA — The Bruins will be missing their captain for Games 3 and 4 of their first-round series against Florida.
After sitting out the series’ first two games in Boston, Patrice Bergeron did not travel with the team to Florida and will miss Games 3 and 4, Bruins coach Jim Montgomery told reporters Friday. The first-year coach said Bergeron is “likely” to return to the lineup for Game 5 back in Boston.

The 37-year-old center has been nursing an undisclosed upper-body injury since the final weeks of the regular season. Bergeron sat out five of the Bruins’ final six games but returned for Boston’s regular-season finale against Montreal. His appearance was brief. The five-time Selke Winner exited the game after the first period.
The Boston Globe’s Matt Porter reports that Montgomery supported the Bruin’s decision to have their captain suit up and that Begerson himself wanted to play as a playoff warmup.

Called it "a well-thought-out plan."
"Life happens. Tweaked something in that last game," and even with hindsight, they'd go the same route again.
Bergeron underwent a labored solo skate Wednesday morning but did not suit up for the Bruins’ 6-3 drubbing at the hands of the Florida Panthers. The game tied the series and put home-ice advantage in the hands of the Panthers.
