SHEFFIELD, Mass — The body of a missing Massachusetts farm worker was recovered from a pickup truck that was found submerged in a pond on Monday morning, officials said.
Divers and a helicopter crew found the body of a 21-year-old Mexican national in a truck that was submerged in eight feet of water in a retention pond at Pine Island Farm in Sheffield just before 12 p.m., according to Massachusetts State Police.
The victim, whose name hasn’t been released, was last seen Sunday night in the cab of the truck. He was employed at the farm as a harvester and also lived on the property.
State police said troopers in a helicopter spotted the truck and divers contended with near-zero visibility in the retention pond to make the recovery.
There were no immediate signs indicating the man’s death was suspicious, according to investigators.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and state police detectives assigned to Berkshire County will determine the man’s cause and manner of death.
