BOSTON — A beloved member of the 2011 Stanley Cup championship team could be returning to the Boston Bruins for another crack at a title.

A reunion between the Bruins and pending free agent winger Milan Lucic is a “strong possibility,” according to NHL insider Chris Johnston.

“With Milan Lucic free to speak with teams ahead of free agency opening Saturday, it sounds like a reunion with the Boston Bruins is a strong possibility,” Johnston reported Wednesday.

In a tweet, Rick Dhaliwal of CHEK television and the Vancouver Athletic said, “As reported 1st here, Lucic to the Bruins will happen.”

Lucic will officially be allowed to sign with the Bruins on July 1 when NHL free agency opens for the summer.

Over the course of eight seasons and 566 games in Boston, Lucic scored 139 goals, tallied 203 assists, and racked up 1,580 hits.

Lucic, now 35, led the Bruins with 30 goals during the 2010-2011 season. Boston would go on to defeat the Vancouver Canucks that season in seven games to become world champions.

In eight seasons since departing Boston, Lucic has remained productive on the offensive and defensive end, scoring 94 goals and dishing out 1,672 hits.

Lucic remains close with a number of Bruins players, including longtime veterans Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, who both hoisted the Stanley Cup alongside him in 2011.

At this time, it’s unclear if Bergeron and Krejci plan to return to hockey for the 2023-2024 season, but bringing Lucic back into the fold might entice them into making one final push together.
