Autopsy: UNH student died from accidental drowning

DURHAM, N.H. — The cause of death for a University of New Hampshire student found dead over the weekend has been released.

22-year-old Vincenzo Lirosi, of Whitman, Massachusetts, was found dead Sunday in a marshy area in Durham.

Lirosi was out drinking with friends and was last seen taking a path in a wooded area near his apartment early Saturday morning.

The university’s Sigma Chi fraternity has been temporarily suspended as police investigate the student’s death.

The fraternity says Lirosi had gained access without permission to its “welcome home” event for a member who was returning from military service.

Sigma Chi said in a statement late Tuesday that it was saddened to learn of the death of Vincenzo Lirosi and it is cooperating with authorities.

Autopsy results released Wednesday determined Lirosi died from accidental drowning.

Sigma Chi said Lirosi “became unruly, and disturbed other attendees” before leaving shortly after his arrival.
