Attention foodies: Have you eaten at the ‘best hole-in-the-wall restaurant’ in Massachusetts?

WORCESTER, Mass. — Sometimes the most basic of restaurants serve up some of the best food around.

Love Food this week published a list of the “best hole-in-the-wall restaurant” in all 50 states.

“From historic spots that started out as literal holes in the wall to basic diners that always offer a warm welcome and wonderful plate of food, we’ve rounded up the best hole-in-the-wall restaurants across the US,” Love Food wrote in its report.

Miss Worcester Diner, an eatery dedicated to French toast, was crowned the best hole-in-the-wall place to grab a meal in Massachusetts. It’s been serving up delicious meals for decades.

“Legendary Miss Worcester has been going since 1948 and has an entire menu dedicated to French toast – a customer favorite,” Love Food wrote. “There’s also a menu of egg dishes, and another focused on burgers. In fact, the dishes significantly outnumber the seats, with around a dozen perches at the counter and five booths for groups. Everything is delicious, and the fun, homely décor is a winner too.”

Miss Worcester Diner is located at 300 Southbridge Street. It’s open 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the week and 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the weekend.

The top hole-in-the-wall restaurants in the other New England states were as follows:

  • Connecticut - Louis’ Lunch in New Haven
  • Rhode Island - Dee’s Deli in Cranston
  • Maine - Palace Diner in Biddeford
  • New Hampshire - Lexie’s in Portsmouth, Dover, Exeter
  • Vermont - Handy’s Lunch in Burlington
