500-person college party disrupts Bridgewater neighborhood

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — Bridgewater Police broke up a huge house party Saturday and arrested the people renting the home.

“Kids were coming out of, I mean walking out of the back to get here, coming down this way, coming down that way. It’s like, it’s got to stop,” said Linda Reis, who lives nearby.

Neighbors like Reis say college students came from all over to attend the party on Summer Street in Bridgewater Saturday afternoon. Police say more than 500 people were there.

“It’s a lot of people everywhere, a lot of noise,” said Reis. “And then you can hear them arguing over there after things get escalated, on the roof, which is a danger.”

Reis says it was a disturbance to the neighborhood, with people on the roof of the house and leaving trash everywhere. The house is just down the street from Bridgewater State University.

“They were using the bathroom in our yard,” said Kevin Tran, who was playing with his siblings across the street from where the party took place. “One of them did not have a shirt on.”

Police busted the party Saturday afternoon and arrested the renters who live there.

Now neighbors hope it sends a message to the college students in the area.

“A big disturbance, because this is mostly little kids and everything,” Reis said. “I’ve got a grandson that comes every weekend – it’s usually a quiet area until they moved in.”
