20-year-old woman charged with throwing iced coffee at 2-year-old during road rage incident

HYANNIS, Mass. — A 20-year-old Marstons Mills woman has been charged after she allegedly threw a cup of iced coffee at another driver during a road rage incident, hitting the driver’s 2-year-old child in the face.

Barnstable Police say the incident happened on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at around 12:51 p.m. after receiving a call from a female driver alleging another woman, driving a white Jeep, had been “riding her bumper” and “laying on her horn” while yelling at her on Route 28 in Centerville.

According to the caller, the other driver then threw a cup of iced coffee into her car, striking her 2-year-old son, who had been sleeping in the back seat, in the face.

The caller told police the driver then headed off east on West Main Street in Hyannis. Patrol units searched the area, but weren’t able to find the woman.

Police say the caller then drove to the Barnstable Police station where her 2-year-old was treated by members of the Hyannis Fire Department for a cut on his face and a bloody nose from being hit with the coffee cup.

An officer, upon inspecting the caller’s car, saw coffee had been splattered all over the back seat of the car and found the iced coffee cup on the floor of the car.

Shortly after, Barnstable Police contacted the suspect, 20-year-old Emma Silva, who came into the station voluntarily. The caller then identified her as the suspect.

Silva was placed under arrest and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon on a child under 14 and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

She was arraigned in Barnstable District Court on Thursday morning and was released on $540 bail. She is due back in court on Nov. 4.
