NORTON, Mass. — A 19-year-old man was hospitalized Sunday morning after he sustained serious burns to his leg in a house fire in Norton.
The Norton Fire Department told Boston 25 News the fire happened at approximately 9 a.m. Crews respond to a single-family house at 71 North Washington Street. When they responded, they found heavy smoke on all floors.
Firefighters quickly entered the house to find the source of the fire, which was located in the basement. They also discovered a 19-year-old man suffering from a serious leg burn. Crews removed the man from the house before providing initial treatment. The injured male resident was sent to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton for further medical care by the North Attleboro Fire Department.
The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes by Norton Fire, Taunton Fire, and North Attleboro Fire. The scene was eventually cleared by 11:30 a.m.
“It only takes a few seconds for a fire to get out of control,” Chief Simmons said. “We ask residents to make sure their wood stoves are in good working order and that they take great care when using them.”
The Norton Fire Department investigation into the fire is active and ongoing, with assistance by the Norton Police Department. There are no further details on the fire released at this time.
