1 person dead, at least 12 dogs killed in Holliston house fire

HOLLISTON, Mass. — One person was hospitalized, another has died more than 12 dogs were killed after an overnight house fire on Winter Street, the state fire marshal’s office said.

Firefighters found flames shooting through the roof of the home at 623 Winter Street early Tuesday morning and a person trapped on the second floor who had gone back into the burning home to rescue some of the animals inside.

Holliston Deputy Fire Chief Mark Dellicker said firefighters found the person near a bedroom and were able to pull them from the fire.

They were sent to a local hospital along with another resident, but one of them did not survive.

The state fire marshal said more than a dozen dogs died in the fire. Crews attempted to resuscitate some of the animals but were not successful.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
