Local company teams with up with Tom Brady so you can eat like the GOAT

Pre-portioned, prepare-at-home meal delivery programs pop up all of the time, and promise to make a chef out of anyone, but just one wants to bring out the athlete in you. And not just any athlete. This meal plan is the one the man referred to as “The Greatest of All Time” follows, and he wants you to eat like a GOAT, too.

It’s evening and dinner is just about ready. On the menu? Pasta Fagioli with tender asparagus. To Emma Cohen and Leo Battite, it doesn’t matter how you say it, it just has to taste good and stick to the ribs. Emma’s an athlete.

“I had lacrosse practice after school and then I had soccer practice after that,” said Cohen.

Same for Leo who also just eats like the average teenage boy, which is to say, everything.

“I had lacrosse practice after school,” said Battite.

So, they’re hungry and after a day like they’ve had, that’s not unusual.  But what is different is who came up with tonight’s dinner.

It’s not mom or dad.

It’s Tom Brady.

“Tom eats these meals every week,” said Purple Carrot founder and CEO Andy Levitt.

From a small space in Needham, athlete-fueling meals are being packed and shipped across the country.

“Every week, we ship out all of these raw, pre-measured ingredients that our customers need to create their TB12 meals at home,” said Levitt.

The Purple Carrot is a local, plant-based meal delivery service.  And Levitt noticed that the way Purple Carrot does dinner, isn’t all that unlike the way New England’s star quarterback eats.

“There’s no meat, there’s no dairy, there’s no eggs,” said Levitt.

Much has been made of Tom Brady’s talent, his age and his diet. Year after year, Brady plays with an intensity that rivals those half his age.  Some have credited an element of that resilience to the way he eats, gluten free, high in protein, low in soy and no refined sugar.

Levitt reached out to “the GOAT” himself to create a meal plan that allows New England fans to eat like a New England Patriot. Thus, the TB12 Performance Meal Program was born, complete with a note from Tom himself.

“As much as these are called performance meals, they’re not just for high-performance athletes like Tom Brady, but anyone who wants to achieve their peak performance can follow a diet like this,” said Levitt.

The kit that landed at the front door made it to the dinner plates. And the result?

The overall review is positive.

“It seemed pretty hearty, even though you weren’t eating any meat,” said Battite.

Although our teenage testers say they’re weren’t exactly full when their plates were clean.

Levitt admits the meal plan is probably a departure from the way the average family eats, but he says athlete or not, anyone can benefit from what he describes as Brady’s own nutritionally-balanced meals using fresh ingredients.  And he says Tom could have chosen any company to partner with, so it means something to Levitt that Brady chose a small, locally-owned company.

“Our partnership with Tom Brady allows such a brighter spotlight on our company and makes people stop and look twice and think, wow, what’s it like to eat a plant-based diet? And if Tom’s doing it, maybe I should take a look.

The price tag to eat like Tom Brady? About $13 a plate. The plan is a subscription plan that costs $78 dollars a week, and provides 3 dinners for two people.
