BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com/AP) -- A medical examiner has testified that a Massachusetts Institute of Technology police officer killed days after the Boston Marathon bombing died of gunshot wounds to the head, including one shot between his eyes.
Dr. Renee Robinson testified Thursday in the trial of bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Robinson says Officer Sean Collier was shot six times: three times in the head and three times in his right hand.
The prosecution emphasized that two of the gunshot wounds to Collier's head fired from the gun were pressed against Collier's skin, and the other was shot from close range.
Prosecutors say Tsarnaev and his brother killed Collier in a failed attempt to steal his gun while fleeing three days after the April 15, 2013, marathon bombing. On Wednesday, two other MIT police officers noted that the gun holster has three security locks; only one was unlocked when they found Collier in his cruiser.
Autopsy photos were shown to jurors but not to spectators in the courtroom. Upon seeing the photos, one of the jurors began to cry, putting her hand to her face. Other jurors were seen wiping tears away from their faces.
Three people were killed and more than 260 were injured in the bombings.
