In a career twist, secretary of education to become butcher

(MyFoxBoston.com) -- Massachusetts Secretary of Education Matthew Malone, who will leave office at the end of the  month, is apparently carving out a new career in his exit.

The former superintendent of Brockton Public Schools and Ph.D. is reportedly planning to do an unpaid internship at Tony's Market in Roslindale Square where he'll hone his new craft as a butcher.

Malone told State House News Service that he's going to explore the profession because he's a "foodie" in a family full of cooks.

"We've lost in America, we've lost the art of craftsmanship," Malone told the news service. "So, I'm going to take the time, after Jan. 8 when we walk out with the governor, and learn the art, the love, the passion of being an expert at something."

Malone, a Republican, became education secretary in January 2013. He told the news service he intends to return to education eventually.
