Honor payment box stolen from Medway Community Farm

MEDWAY, Mass. — The Medway Community Farm still has faith in its customers even after a thief made off with a safe from their brand new farmstand building.

"I think that's outrageous. I think it's terrible,” said Brad Toivonen.

Making the loss sting a little more was that the safe was part of the farm's "honor system" of payment.

It had a slot on the top, into which customers made payments for shares of the summer crop.

“For somebody to come and take it. I mean I guess they needed the money or something but hopefully it doesn't happen again,” said Heather Matthes, a farm customer.

The farm told FOX25 it does not know how much money was in the safe, but social media postings suggest some of it may have been in the form of checks,

Instead of a crackdown, the farm has responded with an increased confidence in honor.

On the wall of the farmstand Sunday was a sign saying the honor system box was gone, but saying that all purchases for the day could be made in I.O.U.s.
