Holy Cross students accused in altercation with Uber driver

WORCESTER, Mass. — A video posted on YouTube allegedly showing Holy Cross students having an altercation with an Uber driver has top school officials taking action.

The dash cam video has a lot of people on campus talking about the behavior in the video already viewed thousands of times.

Most students at Holy Cross not only know about the incident, they’ve seen the video. They told Boston 25 News they recognize the people in the video as students and student-athletes.

This video appears to show an Uber driver pulling up to Leitrim’s Pub in Worcester for a pick up.

The driver then tells the riders they have too many passengers and must cancel the trip.

The group begins to yell at the driver, calling him homophobic slurs.

The woman in the group is seen kicking the passenger window and the driver then attempts to call 911.

He tell the operator he's "having some trouble with some drunk Holy Cross Kids, they stole [his] CDs."

Then, almost an hour later, the Uber driver runs into the same group after finishing a ride, one of the people in the video is seen kicking his headlights.

Students tell Boston 25 News they recognize the people in the video as student-athlers. They say they are disheartened by the video.

"I just think it’s sad for our community, because it’s just not who we are and it’s just not the way that Holy Cross wants to be represented," a student said.

And school officials are taking action. The administration sent out a message to students that they are actively reviewing this situation..

The email says in part:

"As a community, we are dedicated to respectful communication and respecting the rights of all individuals. Ableist and anti-LGBTQ language is deeply harmful and antithetical to our values at Holy Cross ... any violations of our community standards are subject to disciplinary policies and proceedings."

Uber says the company is looking into this incident.
