Hingham community rallying around two brothers after widowed father passes away

HINGHAM, Mass. — The Hingham community is rallying lots of support for two brothers now left without their parents.

“Especially in these crazy times when a lot of people are struggling, it’s nice to know when kids are in need the community rallies to support them,” said Jeff Reilly, who knows the family.

Liam and Mason Lennon’s mother passed away four years ago, and now their dad Kevin just died unexpectedly.

“When Kevin passed away the other coaches and I got together and really decided we need to help these boys, we need to do something to try to make a difference in their lives,” Reilly said.

Jeff Reilly is a youth football coach who coached with the boys’ dad. He set up a GoFundMe page Saturday to raise money for the brothers, and, in just two days, the donations have surpassed $100,000.

“Five-dollar donations to multi-thousand-dollar donations and everyone is trying to let the boys know they care,” Reilly said. “And it’s not so much about the dollar amount, it’s about letting them know that they care and they’re here for them.”

Reilly said more than 900 people have donated to the fund, from employers to neighbors to strangers and family. He hopes this financial support will give the boys some stability during this difficult time.

“Mason’s aunt is the trustee of the irrevocable trust we set up to support the boys,” Reilly said.

The boys also lost their grandmother last year, and they’ll now live with their grandfather. After so much loss, Reilly is glad to see so many people step up to help these boys.

“It’s really a great story and makes you take comfort in humanity again, that people are here for each other,” Reilly said.
