Hernandez defense subpoenaed medical records from Patriots

FALL RIVER, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- Aaron Hernandez's lawyers subpoenaed his medical records from the New England Patriots Tuesday.

Hernandez's defense team issued a subpoena to the Patriots for documents relating to the former football player's medical history between the years of 2010 and 2013, according to court filings. They are looking for records including, but not limited to: psychological testing, X-rays, MRIs, CT scans, drug or alcohol abuse related records, medication records, physical therapy records, scouting reports, investigative reports and other medical records. The Patriots have 30 days to produce the proper documentation.

The defense claims that it is "essential" for them to have access to the records so they can "effectively" prepare for the trial. The defense also noted in a court filing that the records are relevant to the case because they "may bear upon his circumstances and state-of-mind prior to the alleged offense."

Hernandez is charged with first degree murder in connection to the June 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd. A tentative trial date of Oct. 6 has been set in the murder case.

He has also pleaded not guilty in another case accusing him of killing two men in 2012.
