Here's how you can get an E-Z pass quickly before auto tolling raises fares

BOSTON — New automatic tolling will take effect on the Mass. Pike Friday, so you have just a few days left to get an E-ZPass to reduce your toll fares.

There's a big difference in what drivers with an E-ZPass will pay and what drivers without one will pay. Those who get a bill in the mail will be impacted the most by the cost.

Few argue against the need to get rid of the toll booths on the Mass. pike, but some drivers aren't happy about the replacement set to take effect in October.

"People are being pushed further and further and further outside of the city," driver Ian Pomerantz said. "I guess I'm concerned how that's going to affect young people and people who have low income."

Drivers who have E-ZPass transponders will pay less compared to drivers who don't. The change also comes with redistributed tolling, meaning drivers on the Pike will notice the cost of their trips may change.

To accommodate the needs of customers from 10 p.m., on Oct. 28, to 7 a.m., on Nov. 1, the following walk-in customer service locations will be open for in-person assistance and account signups. Sign-ups will be unavailable online until Nov. 1.

These transponders will not be activated until up to five days later:
