Worcester field hospital to suspend operations March 15

WORCESTER, Mass. — The Worcester DCU Center field hospital is preparing to go into “a period of hibernation.”

The field hospital, which reopened in early December, has been seeing fewer admissions as of late.

On Friday morning, a UMass Memorial Health Care spokesperson told Boston 25 News they will begin screening patients on March 10 to ensure they are on track to be discharged by March 15.

The spokesperson said they will continue accepting uncomplicated patients between March 10 and 15 “with the expectation that these patients would be discharged on the 15th.”

The field hospital is planning to suspend operations at 7 p.m. on March 15.

It will then go into “a period of hibernation,” watching the numbers to see if the hospital needs to reopen, or if it can be decommissioned.
