Phase 1 in full effect as Gov. Baker addresses reopening Massachusetts

BOSTON — The state is starting to come back to life economically. On Newbury Street in Boston there were all sorts of activity as curbside retail, hair salons and other businesses start to reopen.

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker walked into his post-holiday weekend briefing with a fresh haircut, telling the scrum of reporters that he was in and out of his barbershop in 20 minutes on Tuesday morning.

"I had to wet my hair when I got there,” the governor said. “I wore a mask the entire time, the gentleman who cut my hair wore a mask; he had a gown."

Gov. Baker has said all along that the reopening in Massachusetts would look a lot different than other states because the virus hit here harder.

"They are starting to have experiences with these reopening initiatives including stuff around restaurants,” Gov Baker said. “And we are able to talk to them about their experiences and what they have learned from it and make adjustments to our own stuff."

Boston 25 News asked the governor if Massachusetts is on track for a transition to Phase 2 on June 8. He told us the health data that would determine that is not yet available.
