N.H. Gov. Sununu announces state mask mandate will not be renewed

CONCORD, N.H. — New Hampshire will not be renewing its state-wide mask mandate when it expires on Friday, April 16, Governor Chris Sununu (R) announced in a press conference Thursday afternoon. The governor attributed the decision to falling death rates and increased vaccinations, as well as hospitalizations “remain[ing] manageable.”

“We are down to approximately, we still average about one fatality a day and of course one is still too many for all of us, and we acknowledge that but with over a 95 percent drop in fatalities, vaccines being so readily available, especially to those most vulnerable this is really what we had put the mask mandate in place to protect for, and it worked, it really did,” Sununu said.

Gov. Sununu went on to add that lifting the mask mandate statewide doesn’t prevent other communities or private businesses from requiring them.

“We appreciate the sacrifice a lot of folks made. We know it wasn’t always easy for folks, but we will be ending the mask mandate,” Sununu said.
