GRAFTON (AP) — A Grafton man whose wife was found dead in a bedroom of their home is now charged with her murder.
Michael Sugarman was held without bail and ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation after a plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf at his arraignment Thursday.
His wife, 36-year-old Kelly Sugarman, was found dead on April 12 after the couple's 5-year-old daughter was seen wandering around the neighborhood in her pajamas and saying her mom was sick. She had what authorities described as neck trauma.
Michael Sugarman was also found in the home with a knife in his neck.
The 42-year-old man was initially charged with assault and battery.
His lawyer, Janice Bassil, says her client is severely mentally ill and incompetent to stand trial.
