Gov. Baker 'optimistic' on Trump win

BOSTON — Republican Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker says he is "optimistic" about the future after the election of Donald Trump.

Baker was the first Republican governor to declare that he would not support the GOP's presidential nominee in the general election. He said Tuesday he did not vote for anyone for president.

Baker on Wednesday said he had no reason to believe that he or the state of Massachusetts would face any retribution from the Trump administration.

Asked if he continued to question the president-elect's temperament, Baker would only say that Trump said "all the right things" in his victory speech Wednesday morning.

Baker also said he called New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a close adviser to Trump, to offer his congratulations.
