Fines for using resident parking during Red Sox games jumps

BOSTON (AP) - It's about to become a lot more expensive for Boston Red Sox fans who park in resident-only spots in the neighborhoods around Fenway Park.

The fine for using resident-only spots on game days has more than doubled from $40 to $100.

Mayor Marty Walsh signed the ordinance Thursday and it takes effect on Monday, when the Red Sox play their 2015 home opener against the Washington Nationals.

The increased fines apply to two hours before game time and two hours after the game ends.

City Councilor Josh Zakim, who sponsored the ordinance, tells the Boston Herald the rule will help "restore the parking balance" to neighborhoods around the ballpark.
