Fairhaven mourns the sudden loss of beloved veteran firefighter

FAIRHAVEN, Mass. — A veteran Fairhaven firefighter has died.

The Fairhaven Fire Department said Firefighter/Paramedic Sean Samanica suddenly passed away at his home on Monday at the age of 46.

Samanica served with the department for more than two decades on Shift #4.

"A man of many talents, Shawn could literally fix anything," Fairhaven Firefighters Association, Local 1555 posted on Facebook. "One of the most mechanically inclined people you could ever meet, he was the go-to guy when we needed something taken apart and put together. There was nothing he couldn't repair!"

Samanica leaves behind a daughter Skylar.

"Shawn often talked about how proud he was of her accomplishments as a student, an athlete and most importantly as a wonderful daughter," the union added.

The department said funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced as soon as they're available.
