Driver charged in accident that killed Sharon runner had suspended license

SHARON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A 44-year-old Sharon man has been cited on several charges in an accident that killed a 20-year-old woman Sunday.

Jeffrey Bickoff is charged with motor vehicle homicide/negligent operation, operating after suspension of license (subsequent offense), marked lanes, and speeding.

The Department of Transportation tells FOX 25 Bickoff license has been suspended for accumulating three surchargeable events in a 24-month period.

Bickoff's license was suspended June 8 for crashes on March 3 and December 12 of 2013. Both crashes took place in Sharon. His license was suspended on April 19 for driving with no registration and no valid inspection sticker on January 31.

The 44-year-old's license was revoked Monday under the immediate threat provision for his role in a crash resulting in a fatality. His six-page driving record dates back to 1987. He has been found at fault in 10 accidents.

Bickoff is accused of hitting 20-year-old Haley Cremer at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of  Hampton and Dogwood roads.

Investigators say Cremer was out for a run when she was hit by an SUV. She was transported to Norwood Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Cremer was entering her junior year at Simmons College, where she was working toward a doctorate in physical therapy. School officials describe her as someone who had a "passion for fitness." They say she developed a successful 5k run at the school in April.

"She had a warm and positive spirit. A friend and classmate described her as always having a smile on her face and a hug for everyone. A faculty member who worked closely with her noted that Haley was incredibly hard working and put 100% of herself into everything she did. Amid her busy course load she had dreams of studying abroad," read a statement in-part from Simmons.

"She was beautiful inside and out,"said coworker Christina Capsaskis. She worked at Taso's EuroCafe in Norwood when she was home for the summer. "She was like a sister, she really was."

The crash is under investigation by Sharon and Mass. State Police. A court date for Bickoff has not yet been set.
