Dartmouth Police officer charged with alleged child rape held without bail

DARTMOUTH, Mass. — A Dartmouth Police officer was arrested and charged for allegedly raping a child and indecently assaulting another child, according to the Bristol County District Attorney's office.

Shawn Souza, 37, was arrested at the Dartmouth Police station on Thursday afternoon.

Souza is being charged with rape of a child by force, rape of a child aggravated by age difference and two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person under 14.

It is alleged all incidents happened in Dartmouth.

He is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Monday morning.

A report from the Department of Children and Families triggered the investigation into the allegations. The Bristol County District Attorney's Special Victim's Unit is leading the investigation.
