DA: Lowell police arrest 'armed and dangerous' homicide suspect

LOWELL, Mass. — An 'armed and dangerous' homicide suspect has been arrested in Lowell, according to the district attorney's office.

Officials in Lowell were asking for the public's help in locating a suspect in connection to the death of a 51-year-old Lowell man, according to a release from the Middlesex County District Attorney and the Superintendent of Lowell Police.

Law enforcement arrested Anthony Massetti, 53, who also goes by Tony, Monday afternoon.

Police believe that Massetti, who knows the victim, was at that victim's residence on Saturday. Just after 5 p.m. on Saturday, police found the victim unresponsive in his home. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his cause of death was later determined as blunt force injuries.

Police ruled his death as a homicide.

Investigators believe that Massetti allegedly beat the vicitm to death. Massetti is described as homeless, but he frequently remains in Lowell and travels via bicycle, per police. He may be armed with one or more firearms.

The death investigation took place in the area of Wilder Street in the city. Police do not believe this was a random incident.

"Just based on what was going on with the number of lights and personnel around out there, it looked pretty severe," said neighbor Matt Dean of the scene.

Police say Massetti has a few tattoos that helped identify him: a Rolling Stones lips logo on his right forearm, a dragon on his left forearm, and the word TONY tattooed on his left bicep.
