Curfew for teens proposed in Somersworth, NH

SOMERSWORTH, NH (MyFoxBoston.com) - A tiny New Hampshire town is clamping down on kids after a rash of vandalism.

Everything from broken windows to graffiti in Somersworth prompted officials there to propose a curfew. The measure is aimed at keeping teens off the streets for 8 hours every night. If it passes it would prohibit anyone under the age of 16 from being out in public places from 9 p.m. at night until 5 a.m. in the morning.

Residents of the town have mixed reactions to the idea.

"I think if they imposed a curfew and enforced it there would be a lot less small isolated crimes," Jordan Welch said.

Another resident Adam Keech was not so supportive.

"It's kind of ridiculous. I mean I can understand trying to put some control on kids doing bad things but a curfew? That's a little rough," he said.

The town's safety committee is reviewing the proposal. After that it goes back to the city council for a vote.
