Bullet rips through ceiling of child's bedroom in Brockton

BROCKTON, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A family remains shaken after a bullet when right through the ceiling of a child's bedroom, with a  5-year-old girl sleeping inside.

A bullet came through the ceiling of Lori MacMurdo's brockton home, and her 5-year-old granddaughter Giovanna was sleeping in the bed below.

"I cant describe to you the gut wrenching feeling I had when I heard her little voice screaming 'Nana!'" Lori MacMurdo. "You're talking a 5 year old girl here, in her bed safe and sound was tucked in."

Gunfire broke out just after midnight on Wednesday, heard by neighbors all around.

"It was like a machine gun," MacMurdo said. "And here comes the bullet, right through the house."

Matthew Leach was there when bullets flew through the window of his home.

"I was sitting by the window maybe like a couple minutes before it happened," he said. "Thank god I got up."

Earlier this month, a 3 year-old boy was nearly hit in a drive by shooting in his home in Brockton.

"You would never imagine in a million years that a bullet is gonna make it from the front of the house in the street to your granddaughter's bedroom in the back of your house," MacMurdo said.

Investigators spent over an hour trying to find the bullet. After they left, the family found it inside a slipper.

Outside MacMurdo's home, 25 shell casings were found, and the suspects are still at large.
