BOSTON — St. Patrick's Day may fall on a Lenten Friday this year, but Cardinal Sean O'Malley says don't worry -- you can still enjoy some corned beef.
According to The Boston Pilot, the Boston archbishop granted a dispensation from the Lenten Friday abstinence on March 17, 2017 to those who wish to celebrate the holiday with the traditional Irish meal of corned beef. Though, if you do eat decide to eat meat, Cardinal O'Malley suggests considering another sacrifice or act of charity to make up for it.
The Pilot reports that the cardinal granted a similar dispensation in 2006, the last time St. Patrick's Day fell on a Friday in Lent.
