HOLYOKE, Mass. — A state medical examiner is on leave after a camera used to take pictures of dead bodies disappeared.
The spokesperson for the Office of Public Safety and Security said the camera and the memory card were reported missing last week from the Holyoke office. Employees searched for the camera, but could not find it.
The Office of Public Safety and Security said the photos were taken by a medical examiner during his investigations; it was never used at a crime scene.
Officials notified next of kin of 801 people who died from 2015 to 2017.
The medical examiner has not been identified but is on paid leave pending the outcome of an investigation.
