Cambridge package thieves grab box with $9K medical device inside

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Package thefts are unfortunately common, but Cambridge police are trying to get the word out about this one because of what was inside the stolen package.

The crime was caught on a doorbell surveillance camera. Police say the camera system picked up video and audio. You can hear one man say, "grab that" as the pair walks by. The other man then turns and bends over to pick up the package.

Cambridge police say the package was from a medical supply company and had a $9,000 insulin pump inside. Something the victim needs for medical reasons. Because of the value of the insulin pump, police say the suspects could face a stiffer penalty.

"It's shameful that anyone would grab a package but when it's something like this, an insulin pump that is very vital to someone's health. It is even more imperative that we do all that we can to ID these people responsible," Cambridge Police Department spokesperson Jeremy Warnick said.

Police are hoping to ID both men on the video.
