BROCKTON, Mass. — The body of Brockton Mayor Bill Carpenter, who died suddenly on Wednesday at the age of 62, will lie in state at City Hall next week.
His body will lie in state from noon to 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 11 in the Brockton City Hall Rotunda, 45 School St.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 12. A time and place for the funeral had not been announced as of Friday afternoon.
Dozens of people lined the streets of Brockton Friday afternoon to honor Carpenter, as a funeral procession traveled through the area and by City Hall.
Carpenter was Brockton's mayor for over five years. He was up for re-election for a fourth term in office.
He was found unresponsive inside a parked car at the Arnone School on Belmont Street around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. Emergency crews took Carpenter to Good Samaritan Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Foul play is not suspected, officials said. An autopsy was to be performed to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
Carpenter was at the school to drop off his grandson at a summer program.
Carpenter was a resident of Brockton for 32 years, a father of six, and a grandfather.
