Boy says man tried to kidnap him at Yarmouth Dollar Store

YARMOUTH, Mass. — A child shopping at a Dollar Store in Yarmouth was nearly kidnapped by a man in the parking lot, according to police.

The boy was found by police at a home near the store, where he was out of breath from running away from the man, police said.

He told police he was leaving the store after buying something when the man, who he said was standing by the door, told him he had candy in his van and extended his arm to take the boy to the van. Police say the child ran from the man and found people at a nearby home who called the police.

Officers went to the Dollar Store where they found surveillance footage of a man matching the one described by the boy in the store. Police posted the surveillance images to Facebook asking for help locating the man.

He is described as a white man with a bald head and short, dark beard with white or gray spots. He is estimated to be 40 to 50 years old. Police say he was driving a tan minivan.

If you have any information, you are asked to call the Yarmouth Police Department 508.775.0445 extension 0 or extension 2134.
