DORCHESTER — Parking in Boston has and will forever be an issue, but some in Dorchester say the city needs to crack down on non-residential parking near T stops.
It's a measure that's been adopted in parts of the city such as Jamaica Plain and the North End and could work in Dorchester - at least to ease resident's parking woes during the day.
"For people who live here there are such limited parking options," said Jay Moskowitz, a resident. "It’s pretty tough because I think people from Quincy and Braintree are coming and they take the T because it’s obviously right next to the T."
Increasingly high rent prices have been driving people out of the city, many who still have to commute in every day.
In Quincy, residents pushed last year for resident permits to be implemented in the city after people taking the MBTA and the Commuter Rail would overcrowd the streets during the day, looking for places to park.
Hubbardston Street is one of the streets where residents say parking is a major issue. Many say they routinely see people from outside the neighborhood park in the small street that;s right next to an MBTA stop.
Residents say it has become a nightmare to find a place to put their cars.
However, commuters aren't the only issue residents say make parking an ordeal. UMass students use parts of Savin Hill to park for free during the day as well.
"I do notice people parking for UMass," said Steve Vorenberg, a resident.
