Boston 25 viewers help boy with autism get the service dog he needed

FRANKLIN, Mass. — A community came together to help a little boy with autism get the special service dog he needed.

After Boston 25 News reported on Tuesday that a little boy in Franklin needed help getting a service dog to keep him alive, our viewers stepped up to help.

In just 24 hours, the GoFundMe set up for P.J. Maxfield's service dog raised almost $9,000.

More than $7,000 came from one generous anonymous donor who saw the story right here on Boston 25 News!

P.J's parents said they needed help raising $15,000 to buy a special service dog to help P.J. navigate through life.

The Maxfield's were committed to doing anything in their power to get little P.J. the help he needed.

The dog is a unique type of breed called a Briard, a rare type of herding dog especially well-suited to help those with autism.

Little P.J. had already picked out the name for his new dog, "Teddy," and now it looks like Teddy and P.J. can finally become best friends!

The entire Boston 25 News team would like to thank our viewers for all the help provided to the Maxfields. Any donation, big or small, made a world of a difference for this 6-year-old.
