HANSON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Controversial political signs taking aim at President Obama have some residents in Hanson seeing red.
Town officials say the signs which are located on Franklin Street violate bylaws because Robert Sullivan, the owner, never got the necessary permits to put the signs up; however, Sullivan, who posted the signs a few feet outside his motorcycle accessories business, claims he is exercising his first amendment right to freedom of speech.
One of the signs says: "Thanks, Obama. You've spent my lunch money, my allowance, my inheritance, 35 years of future paychecks, and my retirement. You jerk. Vote Mitt Romney for 2012."
Accompanying the text is a picture of a little girl giving a rude gesture, and she does not look pleased.
Although the signs are definitely anti-Obama and offensive in nature, the town wants the signs removed not because of their content, but because they violate zoning laws.
However, town officials say they have received numerous complaints.
